Right to trauma care of citizens integral part of right to life: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has declared that the right to trauma care is an integral part of the right to life (Article 21) and has issued comprehensive directives to States and Union Territories. These directives include operationalizing the '112' emergency helpline, establishing a good samaritan grievance redressal system, ensuring AIS-125 compliance for ambulances with GPS integration, setting up state and national trauma registries, and undertaking mass-media campaigns for public awareness. The court also mandated the full operationalization of the cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims, PM RAHAT, and protection under Section 134A of the Motor Vehicles Act.
