Overview
SDMAs are crucial for India's disaster preparedness and response framework. UPSC examines the institutional mechanisms for governance, including the roles and functions of statutory bodies in addressing national challenges like disasters.
State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) are statutory bodies established under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, in each state and union territory of India. Chaired by the Chief Minister, their primary role is to formulate and implement disaster management policies, plans, and guidelines at the state level, ensuring coordinated response and mitigation efforts.
